The Creative Itch

Messy ArtistAs an artist who can't settle into one niche or another, I often find myself feeling the creative itch. It's that feeling of excitement and anticipation that comes with the thought of starting a new project or piece of art.

But let's be real, sometimes the creative itch isn't just a feeling, it's a full-blown rash. I find myself wanting to jump right in and start working on my project, even if it means staying up until 3am to finish. I may spend hours brainstorming, sketching out ideas, or gathering materials for my project. The excitement and energy that comes with the creative itch is contagious and can make even the most mundane tasks seem fun and exciting (or at least bearable).

However, the creative itch isn't always easy to scratch. Sometimes, I find myself stuck in a creative rut and can't seem to make progress on my project. In these moments, I try to step back and take a break. I may go for a walk, listen to music, or do something completely unrelated to my project to give my mind a rest (and maybe sneak in a nap).

But let's be real real, sometimes the creative rash is like a bad case of poison ivy. It won't go away no matter how much you try to ignore it. I may find myself pacing around the house or shop, trying to come up with new ideas, or staring at my project for hours on end. The creative itch is relentless and can drive even the most level-headed artist a little crazy.

Eventually, the rash eases and the itch subsides and I am able to continue working on my project with renewed energy and enthusiasm (and a cup, or three, of coffee).

The creative itch is a reminder that we are all creative beings and that we have the ability to create beautiful and unique things. It's important to listen to that inner voice and follow our creative impulses, even when it may be difficult (or exhausting). After all, as the saying goes, "the only way to do great work is to love what you do (and maybe have a good sense of humor)".
